The October mule train has left
Forty-two mules, 300 winter kits and nine days to beat the snow.

The train left the road head on Sunday at first light.
What it carries
- 300 clean stoves
- 600 blankets
- Dry food for 300 homes
The route
Forty-two mules and eleven handlers take nine days to reach the last homes on the Dzo plateau. The high pass must be crossed before the first heavy snow, which usually falls in the last week of October.
Nine days up, four days down, and the weather decides the rest.
Who packed it
Sixty-four volunteers packed the kits over two Saturdays in Oakland, and the Highpass Muleteers repacked them into 40 kilogram loads at the road head.
What happens next
We will post again when the train reaches the plateau, with the list of homes that received a kit.
